A standard built for hospitals — applied to a dental clinic
ISO 13485:2016 is the international standard for medical device quality management. It was originally written for manufacturers of pacemakers, scalpels, MRI machines — equipment where a small failure can cost a life.
Today the same standard is used to certify how clinics handle every instrument, every material, and every patient-facing protocol. Dental Fam is the only dental clinic in Khánh Hòa certified at clinic-operations level under this standard.
"Clinic-level" — why those two words matter
Most dental clinics in Vietnam that mention ISO 13485 are talking about their dental laboratory — the part of the operation that fabricates crowns, dentures, or aligners. That is one piece of the picture, but it doesn't say anything about how patients are actually cared for.
Clinic-level certification covers:
- How instruments are sterilized between patients
- How materials (anesthetics, fillings, impressions) are stored, tracked, and disposed of
- How equipment is calibrated and maintained
- How patient records are handled and protected
- How staff are trained, retrained, and audited
- How the clinic responds when something doesn't go as planned
In short: every part of your visit, not just the lab work.
What this means in plain language
When you sit in a Dental Fam chair, here's what's already been verified by an independent third-party auditor — annually, not just once:
- The autoclave that sterilized your instruments has documented temperature logs
- The composite filling has a traceable batch number, expiry date, and storage history
- The X-ray machine's radiation output has been measured and confirmed within safe limits
- Your treating dentist has a documented training file, including continuing education
- If something is unusual — a complaint, a complication — there is a written process for investigating and improving
Most clinics do most of these things informally. The certification turns "we usually do this" into "we always do this — and we can prove it."
Why we chose to do this
Honestly: it's hard. ISO 13485 audits are intensive, expensive, and the paperwork is real. But families travelling to Nha Trang from Hanoi, Russia, Korea, and Europe asked the same question over and over: "How do I know this is safe?"
A certificate isn't a personality. But it's a public, audited promise — one we have to renew every year. We thought your family deserved that.
What about ISO 9001:2015?
We hold both. ISO 9001 is the broader standard for organizational quality — patient experience, staff training, complaint handling, continuous improvement. Together, the two certifications cover the technical side and the human side of your visit.

International certifications don't replace good dentists, gentle hands, and a calm waiting room — but they make sure those good things are consistent. Book a check-up to see what we mean, or message us with any questions.
